The Soul Urge Number or the “Desire Number“, represents hidden and sub-surface desires. While less powerful and influential than the Life Path and Destiny, these are are the things we crave and bring us inner happiness.
The Soul Urge Number (sometimes called The Heart’s Desire Number) is derived from your name. To clarify, it is derived from the vowels in your name (full birth name). This number represents your inner self. In addition, your soul urge number knows what your desires, likes/dislikes, motivators and needs are. Furthermore, this number will show you what your true intentions are behind your many choices. Secondly, it will greatly influence said choices leading you to a greater path in life. It’s important that you know your soul urge number (aka Heart’s desire number) as it is one of the most important numbers in numerology.
If you already know all the vowels in your name then you may skip straight to calculating your soul urge number below, otherwise if English isn’t your first language then keep reading. This isn’t supposed to be a complete English lesson, so we’ll simply cover the basics to help you determine whether to count the letter ‘y’ as a vowel in your name. Wherever there is a syllable, there’s a vowel. For example, in the words “try” and “my” you can tell right away that the letter ‘y’ is a vowel in both cases. In addition, ‘y’ also acts as a vowel in words where it makes out the vowel sound in the syllable. Words such as, “sorry”, “berry”, “very”, and “scary”. So, if your name for example is, Larry, Jerry, Yvonne, or Sharyn then you would count ‘Y’ as a vowel
However, ‘y’ is not a vowel in words such as “yes”, “yell”, “year”, or “yolk” because of the presence of another vowel whose sound makes it a syllable. With this basic lesson you should be able to determine whether or not to count the letter ‘y’ as a vowel. If you need additional help, then I urge you to seek a more complete lesson. If you are ready, then you may proceed below to calculate your soul urge number.
As previously mentioned, your soul urge number is calculated using the vowels in your full birth name (including middle names). As a result, you need to use the vowels (A, E, I, O, U, and sometimes Y) in your name to figure this number out.
Here are the numerical values that correspond to each vowel as given by numerology.
A = 1
E = 5
I = 9
O = 6
U = 3
Y = 7
Now, let’s find out what your soul urge/ heart’s desire number is. Once you’ve determined all the vowels in your name, including your middle and last name, simply add up the values of the vowels that make up your name.
Here’s an example to clarify. Let’s use the name NUMEROLOGIST.
N U M E R O L O G I S T
3 5 5 6 6 9 =7
1 + 1 + 9 + 5 + 6 + 5 + 6 = 33 (Remember that if you end up with master numbers 11 or 22 don’t reduce.)
